Alexandria maintained a closed currency system under Roman rule — provincial bronze circulated locally and could not legally leave Egypt. Hadrian visited the province in 130 AD, a tour that coincided with the death of his favorite Antinous in the Nile and prompted an unusual surge in Alexandrian mint output. The regnal year designation L ΙΑ places this piece in year eleven of Hadrian's reign, corresponding to 126/127 AD.
