| Reverse description | Bare head of Premarres (the deified pharaoh Amenemhet III), turned to the right, depicted wearing the striped nemes headdress surmounted by a uraeus at the brow, with a possible short beard at the chin. The reverse type reflects the syncretistic religious imagery characteristic of Alexandrian nome coinage, associating the local deity of the Arsinoite nome with the reigning emperor's coinage. The field is relatively plain, with the legend disposed around the portrait. The date regnal year 11 (L ΙΑ) appears in the field or legend. |

Alexandria maintained a closed currency system under Roman rule — provincial bronze circulated locally and could not legally leave Egypt. Hadrian visited the province in 130 AD, a tour that coincided with the death of his favorite Antinous in the Nile and prompted an unusual surge in Alexandrian mint output. The regnal year designation L ΙΑ places this piece in year eleven of Hadrian's reign, corresponding to 126/127 AD.
