The encircling Greek legend ΚΤΙϹΜΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟΥ — meaning 'Foundation of Augustus' — runs around the periphery, referencing the city's founding by the first emperor following the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. The coin surface shows an olive-green patina with areas of encrustation consistent with extended burial. |
