| 背面描述 | The cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (the so-called Artemis Hagiotate) depicted standing, facing, in the rigid hieratic frontal pose typical of this well-known Anatolian cult image. The goddess wears a kalathos (cylindrical headdress) and the distinctive multi-tiered garment adorned with rows of pendants or ova on the chest. Supporting lateral braces or stanchions flank her lowered arms. A crescent appears to the left of the figure and a star to the right, symbols associated with the lunar and astral aspects of the deity. The ethnic legend ΑΙΖΑΝΕΙΤΩΝ (of the Aezanitans) is inscribed around the reverse field. |
