Amisus held the rare status of a free city within the Roman provincial framework of Bithynia-Pontus — a privilege dating back to arrangements under Pompey and maintained through the imperial period. The legend ΑΜΙϹΟΥ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΑϹ, "of free Amisus," was not ceremonial shorthand but a legally meaningful claim, reflected in the city's right to strike its own civic bronze. The era date ΡΜΕ (year 145) anchors this piece to the local Pontic era, calculated from 48/47 BC.
