She is depicted in the traditional manner of the Samian Hera, robed in a long chiton and himation, her stance solemn and hieratic. The civic ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ appears in the field, asserting the identity and religious pride of the issuing community. The reverse type reflects the longstanding numismatic tradition of Samos in honouring its tutelary goddess. The relief is worn but the standing figure remains discernible. |
