The imperial effigy is rendered in the standard provincial idiom, with the laurel wreath, military cloak, and cuirass conveying both divine favour and martial authority. The encircling Greek legend identifies the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The flan is small and irregular, characteristic of the Samian civic bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD. |

The civic ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ appears in the field, asserting the identity and religious pride of the issuing community. The reverse type reflects the longstanding numismatic tradition of Samos in honouring its tutelary goddess. The relief is worn but the standing figure remains discernible. |
