附加信息

Lampsacus, a Greek colony on the Hellespont with centuries of mint activity behind it, issued this bronze during Caligula's reign under the Roman provincial system that allowed cities in the conventus of Adramyteum to produce their own small denominations. The city had a long history of loyalty to successive Roman rulers — a calculated posture that kept its minting privileges intact through the Julio-Claudian period.

Provincial bronzes of Caligula are frequently underrepresented in collections relative to his silver, partly because his damnatio memoriae, though inconsistently applied, made later retention of his coinage politically awkward in some quarters.
