| Beschrijving keerzijde | Facing cult statue of Artemis Ephesia shown frontally in the orans or xoanon tradition, flanked by supporting lateral props or columns typical of the archaic idol type venerated at Ephesus. The goddess is rendered rigidly in the hieratic manner of the celebrated cult image housed in the Temple of Artemis, with the body shown in a stiff, columnar form. A multi-line Greek inscription surrounds the figure, identifying the high priest and civic officials responsible for the coinage. The overall composition is consistent with the standard reverse type used on Ephesian civic bronzes of the late Hellenistic and early Imperial transition period. |
