Grimenothyrae was a minor Phrygian city of negligible political weight, one of dozens of small civic mints operating under the Sardis conventus that produced local bronze almost entirely for market use within their own territory. Issues from this city are rare in any collection — the municipality simply didn't mint in quantity, and what circulated wore hard in agricultural communities with no particular reason to hoard it.
