| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bears the Devanagari inscription 'सि वा' (Si Va, an abbreviated invocation of Shiva), rendered in bold hammered characters occupying the majority of the flan. The legend is enclosed within a double linear circle border, itself surrounded by a prominent outer dotted (pellet) border that circumscribes the entire design. The rudimentary, somewhat irregular striking is characteristic of hammered coinage produced at Thanjavur during the Maratha period. |
