The effigy is surrounded by a degenerate, nonsensical legend composed of garbled Latin letterforms imitating imperial titulature. The crude workmanship and irregular flan are characteristic of Germanic tribal imitations of late Roman coinage. The portrait retains the general compositional form of the Roman prototype while exhibiting the stylistic degradation typical of unofficial imitative issues. |
