| Descripción del anverso | Laureate and bearded head of Zeus Eleutherios facing left, rendered in bold high relief with finely engraved curling locks of hair and a full, flowing beard. The laurel wreath is clearly articulated across the brow, with individual leaves visible despite the patinated surface. The portrait exhibits the powerful, idealized Hellenistic style characteristic of Syracusan bronze coinage of the Fourth Democracy period. The legend ΔΙΟΣΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΟΤ (of Zeus the Liberator) frames the effigy in the field. |

| Descripción del reverso | A winged thunderbolt depicted centrally in the field, its radiating zigzag bolts and outstretched wings rendered with bold, stylized engraving typical of Syracusan bronzes of this period. The device occupies the full center of the flan, flanked by the civic legend split across the upper and lower fields. The inscription ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ (of the Syracusans) is divided, with ΣΥΡΑΚ appearing in the upper field and ΟΣΙΩΝ in the lower field, encircling the thunderbolt device. |

Syracuse's Fourth Democracy was a turbulent interlude between the death of Agathocles in 289 BC and the rise of Hicetas, during which the city briefly expelled its mercenary garrison — the Mamertines — before losing control of the broader Sicilian interior entirely. Coinage from this period was struck under civic rather than dynastic authority, a rare window in Syracuse's otherwise tyrant-dominated late history.
The Mamertine crisis that bookended this democracy would eventually draw Rome into Sicily for the first time, though that consequence was still a generation away.
