Pergamon in this period was still a minor administrative center under the control of Lysimachus, one of Alexander's successors, who used the city as a treasury depot. The autonomous civic bronze coinage emerging around this time reflects the city's gradual assertion of local identity even under Diadochi overlordship — a process that would accelerate sharply after Lysimachus fell at Corupedium in 281 BC. The SNG BN and Copenhagen references place this piece within a well-documented but relatively small corpus, consistent with limited regional circulation rather than large-scale issue.
