Pergamon in this period was still a minor administrative center under the control of Lysimachus, one of Alexander's successors, who used the city as a treasury depot. The autonomous civic bronze coinage emerging around this time reflects the city's gradual assertion of local identity even under Diadochi overlordship — a process that would accelerate sharply after Lysimachus fell at Corupedium in 281 BC.
