| Description de l’avers | The obverse field is entirely occupied by four lines of elegant Nasta'liq Arabic-Persian calligraphy arranged in bold horizontal registers across the flan. The uppermost line reads 'az Khorasan sekke bar zar shod' (from Khorasan the coin on gold was struck), followed by 'be tawfiq-e Khoda nasrat va imdad' (by the grace of God, victory and support), then 'Shah-e Din Ali Musa Reza' invoking the eighth Shia Imam, and finally the mint and date formula 'Zarb Mashhad-e Moqaddas 1142' (struck at Holy Mashhad, AH 1142). The lettering is deeply struck in high relief with characteristic Afsharid calligraphic style, the legends separated by finely incised horizontal rules, and the whole contained within a plain circular border. |

| Description du revers | The reverse presents the Shia kalima and the names of the Twelve Imams arranged in multiple lines of Nasta'liq calligraphy filling the entire field, framed by a dotted inner border and a marginal legend encircling the periphery. The central inscription opens with the shahada 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah, Ali wali Allah,' followed by the sequential enumeration of the twelve Imams: Ali, Hasan, Husayn, Ali, Muhammad, Ja'far, Musa, Ali, Muhammad, Ali, Hasan, Muhammad. The deeply struck lettering is characteristic of Afsharid hammered coinage from the Mashhad mint, with the legends rendered in bold relief against a flat field. |
