| Opis awersu | The obverse bears the Shi'ite Kalima (profession of faith) rendered in bold Nasta'liq calligraphy across the field, divided into three horizontal registers by ruled lines. The legend proclaims the Islamic declaration of faith together with the names of the Prophet Muhammad and the Imam Ali. The script fills the flan to its edges, with individual words densely interlocked in the characteristic hammered Afsharid style. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border following the irregular circumference of the flan. |

Adel Shah's reign lasted roughly a year before he was blinded and deposed by his own nephew in 1748 — one of the more brutal episodes in the fratricidal collapse of the Afsharid dynasty following Nader Shah's assassination in 1747. Coins struck in his name at Isfahan represent a window of perhaps months rather than years of actual production.
