Giesshübl bei Wien — a small spa town south of Vienna — issued this 95 Heller note as part of Austria's Notgeld wave, when postwar coin shortages forced hundreds of municipalities to print their own emergency small change. The denomination itself is the detail worth pausing on: 95 Heller is genuinely odd. Most Notgeld issues clustered around round or near-round figures; 95 suggests the municipality was trying to cover a very specific gap in local circulation, possibly complementing existing 5 Heller pieces to reach the 1 Krone threshold.
Designer R. Wild is documented across several Austrian municipal Notgeld issues of this period, though little biographical detail survives.
