Aanvullende informatie

The "cabeza pequeña" portrait used on this Barcelona issue was an early attempt to render the young queen — still a minor under the regency of General Espartero — in coinage form. The regency period created genuine administrative friction between Madrid and the peripheral mints, and Barcelona's output during these years reflects inconsistent die production rather than a coordinated national standard. Espartero's own political position collapsed in 1843 when Isabel II was declared of age at thirteen, cutting this portrait type's production window short.
