Reverse description Central field depicts a historical scene of hammer coin minting, showing two medieval mint workers seated at a low workbench: one craftsman strikes a punch with a mallet held aloft, while a second worker tends to coin blanks on the surface before him. The composition evokes the artisanal coinage techniques in use at the time of Columbus's 1492 voyage. The Madrid mint mark (M) and the crowned globe mintmaster mark appear at the lower left and lower right of the inner beaded circle respectively. The circumferential legend QVINTO·CENTENARIO arcs across the upper border, while the denomination 80000:PTAS is inscribed along the lower border, all within a beaded circle.
