| Reverse description | Reverse of the hammered silver cob host coin, displaying the characteristic castle (tower) device of the Spanish colonial coinage tradition, rendered in bold, somewhat crude relief consistent with the hammered cob technique. Portions of the quartered arms — featuring the crowned castle of Castile — are discernible within the irregular flan, partially obscured by the rough and porous surfaces resulting from the primitive minting process. Fragmentary traces of the surrounding legend and cross pattern are visible at the flan edges, though largely lost due to the irregular striking and clipping. The overall fabric is consistent with a colonial Spanish-American 8 Reales macuquina host coin subsequently countermarked for circulation in Guatemala. |
