| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, as struck at the Mexico City Mint for the original host coin. Surrounding the effigy is the legend FERDIN • VII • DEI • GRATIA, with the date 1820 positioned in the lower exergue. A toothed border runs along the inner rim. Prominently applied over the king's portrait is the Spanish colonial Philippines countermark — a small oval punch depicting a royal crown above the cypher Y•II• (for Isabella II), validating the coin for circulation in the Philippine archipelago between 1834 and 1837. |
