| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse of the host coin depicts a radiant Phrygian liberty cap (gorro frigio) at centre, emitting long alternating straight and flame-like rays that fill the field, with the word LIBERTAD inscribed on the cap's brim. Superimposed at the centre is the official Philippine countermark: a crowned royal cypher 'Y·II' (for Isabel II) applied in an oval punch surmounted by a royal crown, validating the coin for circulation in the Philippines. Surrounding the central design, the countermark legend reads '8R · Go · 1842 · P · M · 10Ds · 20Gs', indicating denomination, mint (Guanajuato), date, assayer initials, and fineness specifications. The reeded border of the host coin is visible along the rim. |
