Superimposed at the centre is the official Philippine countermark: a crowned royal cypher 'Y·II' (for Isabel II) applied in an oval punch surmounted by a royal crown, validating the coin for circulation in the Philippines. Surrounding the central design, the countermark legend reads '8R · Go · 1842 · P · M · 10Ds · 20Gs', indicating denomination, mint (Guanajuato), date, assayer initials, and fineness specifications. The reeded border of the host coin is visible along the rim. |
