Prominently applied over the emperor's cheek and neck is the Philippine Isabel II countermark, an incuse oval cartouche enclosing a crowned castle and the numeral II, authenticated as a Spanish colonial validating stamp applied in Manila between 1834 and 1837. The toothed border of the host coin remains visible around the full circumference. |

The denomination 8R and assayer initials J·M appear in the lower field, flanked by the mint mark, while the surrounding peripheral legend reads MEX·I·IMPERATOR·CONSTITUT, identifying Iturbide as Mexico's first Constitutional Emperor. A toothed border frames the entire design. |
