| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse of the host coin displays the Argentine coat of arms at center: an oval shield divided horizontally, the upper half bearing crossed laurel branches and a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, the lower half showing a mountain landscape. The shield is encircled by a wreath of laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon, flanked by the denomination numeral '8' to the left and the letter 'R' to the right of the wreath. The circular legend reads 'EN UNION Y LIBERTAD' along the upper periphery, with the date '1813' at the base, and the mint mark 'PTS' and assayer initial 'J' incorporated into the legend. Applied over the coat of arms is the Philippine Isabel II countermark, a crowned 'Y·II·' punch, officially applied between 1834 and 1837 to validate this foreign coin for circulation in the Philippines. |
