The circular legend reads 'EN UNION Y LIBERTAD' along the upper periphery, with the date '1813' at the base, and the mint mark 'PTS' and assayer initial 'J' incorporated into the legend. Applied over the coat of arms is the Philippine Isabel II countermark, a crowned 'Y·II·' punch, officially applied between 1834 and 1837 to validate this foreign coin for circulation in the Philippines. |
