| Descrizione del dritto | Central field occupied by the crowned quartered royal arms of Spain, displaying castles and lions in the four quarters with a central escutcheon bearing the fleur-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty, all surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The assayer initial 'J' appears to the left of the shield and the denomination numeral '8' to the right, both flanking the arms in the field. A circular legend runs continuously around the periphery, separated by pellets, identifying the monarch and his titles in abbreviated Latin. The design is executed in the pillar-dollar (columnario) obverse style characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century Spanish colonial milled coinage. The overall composition is bold and well-centred, consistent with the high-relief milled issues of the Guatemala mint. |
