Reverse description Two crowned hemispheres depicting the Old and New Worlds are displayed in the centre of the field, flanked on either side by crowned Pillars of Hercules, each pillar entwined with a banner bearing the motto 'PLUS ULTRA'. The mint mark 'G' appears twice flanking the date at the bottom of the legend, identifying the Guatemala City mint. A continuous circular legend surrounds the design, expressing the imperial motto 'UTRAQUE UNUM' (Both as One), referencing the union of the Old and New World under the Spanish Crown. The reverse follows the standard 'columnario' or pillar-dollar type introduced at Spanish colonial mints in 1732. The engraving is crisp and typical of the mature Guatemala mint production of the 1750s.
