Reverse description Two crowned Pillars of Hercules, representing the Old and New Worlds, rise from stylised waves rendered as undulating horizontal lines in the lower field. Between the pillars, the motto PLVS SVL TRA is inscribed in three lines, with the mint mark NR (Nuevo Reino, Santa Fe de Bogotá) below. The date 1721 appears twice in the surrounding circular legend, which also carries the royal title HISPANIARVM REX. The whole composition is enclosed within a beaded or rope inner border, characteristic of the Nueva Granada cob series.
