| Obverse description | The obverse bears two applied countermarks struck upon the field of the host coin. The first is the rectangular ENSAIE countermark, containing the legend ENSAIE (meaning 'assay' or 'trial') within a serrated border. The second is the Morelos Type A monogram countermark, depicting an interlaced 'M' and 'o' cypher within a circular beaded border, referencing insurgent leader José María Morelos. Both countermarks are clearly impressed and partially overlap the underlying host coin design, which remains visible beneath them. |
