Obverse description The obverse bears two applied countermarks struck upon the field of the host coin. The first is the rectangular ENSAIE countermark, containing the legend ENSAIE (meaning 'assay' or 'trial') within a serrated border. The second is the Morelos Type A monogram countermark, depicting an interlaced 'M' and 'o' cypher within a circular beaded border, referencing insurgent leader José María Morelos. Both countermarks are clearly impressed and partially overlap the underlying host coin design, which remains visible beneath them.
