Obverse description Central shield bearing a triple-towered castle, surmounted by a royal crown, struck by the roller-milling technique producing a characteristically flat, even field. The Segovia aqueduct mintmark (S beneath the aqueduct symbol) appears to the lower left of the shield, while the denomination mark VIII is positioned to the right. A circular legend in Latin runs around the periphery, bordered by a beaded inner ring. The overall design is bold and deeply struck, consistent with the mechanical minting methods employed at the Segovia mint.
