| 裏面の説明 | Central field displays the numeral 8 in Arabic script within a raised plain inner circle or incuse depression, denoting the denomination of 8 Khumsiyyah. The numeral occupies the center of an otherwise plain field enclosed by a continuous wreath of olive or laurel branches tied at the lower junction with a decorative ribbon bow. The wreath design mirrors that of the obverse, providing a harmonious bilateral composition. The field surrounding the central numeral is smooth and unadorned. The overall design is simple and functional, consistent with the circulation coinage of the Kathiri Sultanate. |

The Kathiri Sultanate of Hadhramaut operated in what is now eastern Yemen, maintaining a degree of autonomy under the broader Ottoman and later British spheres of influence. The khumsiyyah — literally "one fifth" — was a fractional denomination tied to the Maria Theresa thaler-based trade currency that dominated the Arabian Peninsula and Horn of Africa through the nineteenth century. Sultan Ghālib ibn Muhsin al-Kathiri ruled during a period of intense inter-sultanate rivalry with the Qu'aiti, a conflict that would eventually erode Kathiri territorial control across Hadhramaut by the century's end.
