Reverse description Central field displays the numeral 8 in Arabic script within a raised plain inner circle or incuse depression, denoting the denomination of 8 Khumsiyyah. The numeral occupies the center of an otherwise plain field enclosed by a continuous wreath of olive or laurel branches tied at the lower junction with a decorative ribbon bow. The wreath design mirrors that of the obverse, providing a harmonious bilateral composition. The field surrounding the central numeral is smooth and unadorned. The overall design is simple and functional, consistent with the circulation coinage of the Kathiri Sultanate.

Additional information

The Kathiri Sultanate of Hadhramaut operated in what is now eastern Yemen, maintaining a degree of autonomy under the broader Ottoman and later British spheres of influence. The khumsiyyah — literally "one fifth" — was a fractional denomination tied to the Maria Theresa thaler-based trade currency that dominated the Arabian Peninsula and Horn of Africa through the nineteenth century. Sultan Ghālib ibn Muhsin al-Kathiri ruled during a period of intense inter-sultanate rivalry with the Qu'aiti, a conflict that would eventually erode Kathiri territorial control across Hadhramaut by the century's end.
