| Descrizione del rovescio | The arms of the Provincias del Rio de la Plata occupy the center of the field within an oval shield, depicting clasped hands beneath a Phrygian liberty cap on a staff, the shield horizontally divided with horizontal line shading in the upper half. The shield is flanked by a laurel wreath on each side and supported below by two crossed cannons with a war drum at the base, all rendered in low relief. The peripheral legend EN UNION Y LIBERTAD arcs across the upper field, while the mint mark, assayer initial, denomination, and date — RA · P · 8S · 1835 — are distributed in the lower portion of the legend. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

La Rioja's gold coinage of this period was struck under provincial authority during the fractured decades following Argentine independence, when Buenos Aires and the interior provinces operated as effectively separate monetary entities. The mint at La Rioja — one of the few interior mints with consistent gold production — drew on local Andean mining output rather than coastal trade networks, giving these pieces a distinctly regional character in their metal sourcing.
The nine-year emission window reflects prolonged political instability rather than continuous production; striking almost certainly halted during periods of civil conflict between Unitarian and Federalist factions that repeatedly disrupted La Rioja through the early 1830s.
