| Beschrijving keerzijde | Elaborate Jerusalem cross occupying the central field, its four arms terminating in cross-crosslets, with four castles or lions in the angles between the arms, enclosed within a quadrilobe formed by four arched segments in the style of the Spanish royal cross type. The surrounding border carries a partial Latin legend, interrupted by the irregular edges of the hammered flan. The bold, deeply struck cross design is characteristic of the Spanish colonial and metropolitan gold escudo series of the seventeenth century. The reverse composition reflects the standard macuquina die design employed across multiple Spanish mints during the reign of Felipe IV. |
