| Obverse description | Central field bears the quartered royal arms of Spain within an ornate shield, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, with the escutcheon of the House of Bourbon-Anjou at center, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. Two rampant lions serve as supporters flanking the shield. The mint mark 'S' and assayer mark 'M' appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination mark 'VIII' to the right. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, separated by decorative rosette stops, reading CAROLVS · II · DEI · GRAC S M VIII, the whole encircled by a finely milled border. |
