Issued to honor Katalin Karikó following her 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, shared with Drew Weissman for their work on mRNA modification — research conducted largely during decades when Karikó was demoted, had her funding cut, and was working at the University of Pennsylvania without faculty status.
