Issued to mark the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas's 30th anniversary as an independent central bank — established under Republic Act 7653 in 1993, which replaced the old Central Bank of the Philippines after it collapsed under roughly $8 billion in accumulated debt. The transition was one of the more consequential institutional restructurings in Southeast Asian monetary history, stripping the successor institution of the quasi-fiscal obligations that had gutted its predecessor.
Struck to one troy ounce in .999 silver, a format the BSP has used consistently for commemorative issues since the 1990s. Mintage figures for this release had not been widely published at time of cataloging.
