Bosnia and Herzegovina issued this coin in 1993 while the country was actively at war — the siege of Sarajevo had been underway for over a year, and the Bosnian state controlled little functional territory. The timing against the Lillehammer Winter Olympics is striking given that Sarajevo had itself hosted the 1984 Winter Games, with the venues on Bjelašnica and Jahorina then serving as active front lines.
