The reverse of the host Spanish colonial 1 Real cob displays the cross of Jerusalem with lions and castles in the angles, typical of the macuquina coinage of the Spanish American mints. Over this host design, the Portuguese Type 3 countermark of King Afonso VI has been applied, displaying the crowned Portuguese arms with the value '75' (réis) prominently struck below, validating the coin for circulation in Brazil at a revalued denomination. The countermark is bold and well-centered, with a beaded border surrounding the crowned shield device. |
