Freienwalde in Pommern was a small Pomeranian spa town, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1920, its Magistrat issued Notgeld to address the chronic small-change shortage that persisted well after the Armistice. The Görlitzer Nachrichten und Anzeiger — a regional newspaper press — was a common choice for provincial towns unable to access the major security printers, and the quality of output varied considerably across their Notgeld commissions.
The designer credit to Robert Koch is worth noting: whether this refers to the local commercial artist of that name active in Silesia during this period, or another hand entirely, has not been conclusively established in the Notgeld literature.
