Lübeck's notgeld output during the inflationary years attracted considerable local artistic investment, and the Vereinigung zur Kunstpflege — a cultural arts promotion society — was among the more unusual issuers: not a municipality, not a bank, but a private cultural body issuing scrip under emergency currency conditions.
