The central panel presents a colour vignette of a low thatched-roof farmhouse surrounded by tall trees, captioned "DAS ELTERNHAUS DES DICHTERS" (the poet's parental home), below which a block of italic German text in script lettering fills a guilloche underprint field; the passage is attributed with a facsimile signature of Hermann Sudermann at the foot.
