To the left of the bust, the Gregorian birth and death years '1918' and '1970' are inscribed in two lines. To the right, the corresponding Islamic calendar years '١٣٣٦' and '١٣٩٠' appear in two lines. In the upper left field, a sculptural vignette depicts the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza. Ajman, the smallest of the Trucial States by area, issued a flurry of commemorative and essai pieces in the late 1960s and early 1970s largely as a revenue scheme targeting foreign collectors rather than domestic circulation. This aluminium essai honoring Nasser was struck in 1970 — the same year Nasser died of a heart attack in September, just after mediating the Black September crisis between Jordan and the PLO. Whether the issue preceded or followed his death is a detail that materially affects its framing, and the timing remains ambiguous in most references.
