Additional information

Equatorial Guinea's run of speculative collector issues in the early 1990s had little to do with domestic monetary policy and everything to do with the international novelty coin market. The country, a CFA franc zone member, contracted foreign minting houses to produce themed issues — dinosaurs among them — that were never intended to circulate and were sold almost entirely to overseas dealers and thematic collectors.

KM#148 is one of several Allosaurus-themed pieces from this period. The denomination is fictitious in practical terms: 7,000 CFA francs had no meaningful relationship to the coin's actual cost or distribution.
