| Beschrijving keerzijde | The Portuguese royal coat of arms of João V, rendered in the 3rd type shield style, occupies the central field, displaying the traditional quartered escutcheon with the quinas (five inescutcheons bearing bezants) and the bordure of castles. The shield is set within an elaborate Baroque cartouche of foliate and acanthus scrollwork, flanked on each side by decorative shell and floral ornaments. The entire composition is surmounted by a detailed royal crown. The reverse field is otherwise plain, with no circumferential legend, and the design is contained within a reeded border consistent with the obverse. |
