The 60-dollar denomination exists for one reason: Namibia's independence, proclaimed on 21 March 1990, and this note marks 35 years of it. Commemorative denominations tied to anniversaries are uncommon in southern Africa — the round-number instinct usually wins — which makes this a minor but genuine curiosity in the region's modern output.
