The date 1564 is placed prominently above the shield in the upper field. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the peripheral legend, which reads MONETA NOVA COLMARIENSIS, identifying this as the new coinage of Colmar, struck in Latin around the full circumference. |

The peripheral legend in Latin reads FERDINAND I IMP AVG PF DECRETO 60, invoking the imperial authority of Ferdinand I under whose decree this taler was issued, enclosed within a beaded inner border. |
