Obverse description Central field occupied by the ornate shield of Colmar's civic arms, depicted in a Renaissance decorative cartouche with scrollwork mantling surrounding the escutcheon. The date 1564 is placed prominently above the shield in the upper field. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the peripheral legend, which reads MONETA NOVA COLMARIENSIS, identifying this as the new coinage of Colmar, struck in Latin around the full circumference.

Reverse description Displayed double-headed imperial eagle with wings spread, each head surmounted by a separate crown, the whole beneath a central imperial crown above. On the breast of the eagle appears a circular orb bearing the numeral 60, denoting the coin's value of 60 Kreuzer. The peripheral legend in Latin reads FERDINAND I IMP AVG PF DECRETO 60, invoking the imperial authority of Ferdinand I under whose decree this taler was issued, enclosed within a beaded inner border.
